Programs and Requirements

Admissions Requirements

Admission requirements are set forth in the Graduate School Handbook. In addition, the GRE General Test is required of all applicants, except for those with BS degree from OSU Welding Engineering program and with cumulative point-hour ratios above 3.0. International applicants must submit TOEFL scores.

Master's Degree Requirements

Students who are funded are required to assist in the laboratory. The Master of Science program is individual in nature and is arranged with a faculty adviser to ensure that the fundamentals of welding engineering are included and that an adequate concept of the thesis area has been developed. Both the thesis and non-thesis master's degree program plans are offered.

All requirements for the degree must be completed within six years.

Doctoral Degree Requirements

Students must complete a minimum of 45 hours of dissertation research and 45 cumulative hours of course work. The course work will include a minimum of 24 cumulative hours at the 700/800 level in welding engineering, and at least 9 hours of a coherent sequence of courses from another department that will represent a minor field of specialization. Overall, the cumulative hours in the program of study will include at least 15 hours of 800-level courses.
